Damp Proof Membrane DPM RE3168

Damp Proof Membrane, often referred to as DPM, is a high puncture-resistant polythene suited for use in the building and construction industry. It is an extremely durable water, moisture and vapour resistant plastic. Its main purpose is to prevent absorption of water and moisture from the foundation and floors of buildings - a phenomenon called rising damp, which causes damage to walls in the form of peeling paint, flaky masonry (plaster) rot, spots, green algae ('apotobibire'), and cracks.
DPM will help prevent any damp issues and help resolve pre-existing damp problems. In older houses where there may not be any DPM laid in the foundations, damage to walls and poor indoor air quality are prevalent. Retrofitting Damp Proof Membrane is an effective way to protect against damp, water and moisture absorption and their attendant problems.
DPM is strong enough to be used horizontally in walls in new builds. It is most effective if applied at foundation and casting stages of house building hence its strong recommendation for players in the house building industry.
DPM is equally effective as an underlay for block paving and construction of all kinds of pavements.
DPM is also the number one material for construction of swimming pools and all water-holding ground dug outs. For septic manholes, using DPM as a lining offers total protection against water ingress and seepage.
For total protection against dampness in homes, Blue Star Dry Homes recommend the use of Damp Proof Membrane in conjunction with Damp Proof Course (DCP). Whilst DPM is primarily for floors, DPC is the ultimate material for walls (please see another of our product adverts).
DPM also has practical uses around the home and garden in ways such as covering furniture and cars, temporary protective flooring, interim window replacements, and all kinds of wrapping.
In agriculture, the water and moisture resistant qualities of DPM make it extremely suitable as a protective covering for drying cocoa beans, and as a mat for drying rice, corn, and other grains.
The product is offered in a rolled up bundle measuring 4 meters by 25 meters in 250 um (micron) and 300 um (micron) thickness. It is sourced from a manufacturer that services markets in Europe, Australian, and New Zealand.
